The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers or IEEE first proposed the 802.3ba standard during a plenary meeting in July 2006.
The primary goal of the proposition was to exceed the already premium services of Ethernet networking.
To date, the known Ethernet application considered to be fastest with its speed rate of 10 gigabytes per second is the 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GbE). The supposed 100GbE is expected to surpass such performance up until ten times.
Sometime between the last months of 2007, more than a year since the project was first conceived, it was finally executed.
A special committee called the P802.ba Task Force was instructed to work on the project. A coinciding publication for both speeds 40GbE and 100GbE was then expected for the project.
If done successful, it will be IEEE’s first ever release of two speed ratings under just a single standard. The institution aims that through this project there will be an efficient network service for small and large enterprises alike.
Despite the fact that the 100 gigabit Ethernet technology will not be made exclusively available until June of 2010, there have been known information about it. And with the help of the 802.3ba task force’s regular draft exhibitions, expectators were able to witness the project’s development.
In fact, as of February of 2010, there have been ten draft versions produced.Since 2008, there are already ten working versions published.
